![]() Pending Graduate DegreeThe UC San Diego Jacobs School of Engineering and its Department of Computer Science and Engineering (CSE), in collaboration with the Rady School of Management, has proposed a new interdisciplinary program leading to a Master of Advanced Studies in Architecture-based Enterprise Systems Engineering (MAS-AESE). The goal of the program is to educate professional engineers in the processes, structures, and formal methods through which enterprise systems are architected, integrated and made interoperable. Motivation for the program is based on the realization that the relatively static behaviors of the past have been changed unalterably by the explosion of telecommunication and information technologies/capabilities as typified through the emergence of the World-wide Web (W3). The MAS-AESE graduate degree proposal has been approved by the Representative Assembly at UC San Diego and has been forwarded to the Coordinating Committee on Graduate Affairs (CCGA) for system-wide approval for the University of California. It is anticipated that degree approval will occur during the next academic year for implementation by the beginning of the AY 2010-2011. The AESE Leadership Program covers the material in the proposed graduate program. The MAS-AESE graduate program intends to bridge the gap between engineers and managers by producing graduates who understand management essentials (e.g., strategic thinking, finance, operations, and marketing) coupled with a broad view of a range of engineering disciplines (e.g., complex systems, information systems, business process modeling and simulation, enterprise architectures, decision support). The graduates of the program should be well-prepared to assume a leadership role in enabling their organizations to respond innovatively, rapidly, and effectively to the challenges of the dynamic competitive and event-filled environment. |
