The rapid growth of the Internet and World Wide Web has altered the demands and possibilities for competitive advantage and enhanced productivity for enterprises, both defense and commercial.

Over the past decade and more, a wide variety of enterprises have found it difficult to embrace successful strategies and solutions for creating, engineering, and evolving the knowledge system that serves the enterprise most effectively. Leaders and managers have been unable to break the static behaviors and narrow organizational views that served them well in the past. The engineers have found the challenges of dealing with the complex event-driven environments and the large-scale array of enterprise stakeholders and systems vastly more difficult than the systems engineering problems of the past.

The Architecture-based Enterprise Systems Engineering (AESE) Leadership Program bridges the gap between engineers and managers helping them gain a better understanding of management essentials coupled with a broad view of a range of engineering disciplines. It will educate professional engineers in the processes, structures, and formal methods through which enterprise systems are architected, integrated and made interoperable. Graduates should be well-prepared to assume a leadership role in enabling their organizations to respond innovatively, rapidly, and effectively to the challenges of the dynamic competitive and event-driven environment.

Partipants will gain a deeper understanding of:

• Role of enterprise architecting in bridging management and engineering practices
• Program and project management approaches to dealing with challenges of complex large scale systems and unexpected complex events
• State of practice knowledge spanning enterprise-wide engineering methods and processes for modern, distributed decision support systems
• Hands-on experience as an enterprise architect in a program-long, team-based project
